28.Sep.12 Isle of Man Network gets planning!

Nigel Moore of the Sports Recreation Management Network visited the Island on 21st September to deliver a workshop on Whole Club Planning for the Isle of Man Athletics Network.

The Isle of Man Sport Institute was well populated with 20 attendees from the Network's member clubs.  There was very much a wide cross section of ages and roles from young athletes to coaches, officials and committee members.  This made for a well balanced workshop with a variety of view points and opinions that stimulated productive discussions about where people see athletics on the island and indeed within their club.

The objective of the workshop was to help clubs to assess their strengths and weaknesses in areas such as the wide range of people involved in athletics, training and competition structures, welfare, partnerships and club management.  From this, clubs can make informed decisions about how they can plan to maintain their strengths and to appropriately address their weaknesses.  Very much an interactive workshop, the attendees split into discussion groups to explore these areas and feedback their findings to the other clubs to compare the challenges they faced.

The challenge now is for clubs to explore further what direction they wish to take their clubs into the future and decide how they are going to get there and what support they may need along the way.
