23.Aug.12 Crowborough Runners relive the Mo-ment

Crowborough Runners say "Everyone can Run!" and they meant to prove it at their free Athletics Community morning event held at the weekend.

The club - based in East Sussex - welcomed residents and visitors  to join them at their Community Athletics Day on Saturday 18th August at Goldenstone’s Leisure Centre in Crowborough.   On offer for anyone who wanted to try out running was an 800m, a mile course or a 3k on the track.  Sixteen potential young stars took part in the 800m or mile run, and nine adults ran the 3k course.  The runners then took great pride in providing a well-rehearsed Usain Bolt strike and a fantastic “Mo” ment.

The 3k for adults was won by Charlie Marr and Cherry Fowler first lady home.  Full results and times are on the Crowborough Runners website.

The club meets every Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday for training runs and juniors can take part in coached athletics sessions throughout the summer months. Hoping that the momentum of the 2012 Olympics will encourage more people to come and take part in running and athletics club coach James Welbury  commented "We have a good set up here in Crowborough, great countryside and enthusiastic members and we would love to see more people enjoy running, competing and taking part in athletics."

Volunteers were also needed to help out and they enjoyed their morning, and James reported that "the kids in particular had great fun."
