    England Athletics are pleased to announce the South West Regional winners of the England Athletics Volunteer Awards 2012.  The winners will be presented with their awards at a special evening on Wednesday 5th December.

    Cornwall Athletic Club held an ‘Introduction to Wheelchair Racing’ evening at Carn Brea for wheelchair athletes in the county, which since the Paralympics has seen a jump in demand throughout Cornwall.

    11-year-old Lydia Cross has hit the headlines in her area after being tipped as Britain’s next Paralympic blade running star.  She is now training to be a blade runner after being inspired by Paralympian Jonnie Peacock.

    20.Aug.12 “Pass the baton” for all disabled people to be active

    The English Federation of Disability Sport are encouraging everyone to champion participation at all levels and “Pass the baton”.  And the poster produced by EFDS features Ben Rowlings – Playground to Podium and Coventry Godiva athlete - will be displayed across 9 London Underground Stations.

    14.Aug.12 Budding Rio athlete to be 2012 Paralympic Flame Ambassador

    A 14 year old athlete who has come through the Playground to Podium and Disability Sport Events programme has been chosen as the Paralympic Flame Ambassador for Plymouth.  Two years ago she took up athletics and was picked after winning five gold medals in the National Disabled Athletics Championships in Warwick in July.

    15.Jun.12 P2P athlete gets a taste of the media

    Young Kelly Hutchins (P2P Wesport) was in demand by the media ahead of the School Games.  On the morning of competition Kelly was up at 5am – with team mascot – for BBC Breakfast and 5 Live, before finding herself selected to do 6 interviews in all!
