  • 10.Sep.09 North Eastern athletes excel at Northern Athletics Inter-Counties Championships

    Athletes from the North East were in good form as they brought the curtain down on their track season by representing the North Eastern Counties in the Northern Athletics Inter-Counties Championships at Robin Park, Wigan.
    The team consisted of under-15 and under-17 teams and while all did well it was the under-15 boys squad who were celebrating after winning the team trophy and pushing the strong Yorkshire and Lancashire squads into the minor positions.

    Four weeks ago there were fears over the fitness of the GB Team going into a major championship, and we all know how well they acquitted themselves out in Berlin. The same is true for the young athletes who represented the North East region at this year’s UK School Games in Cardiff.

    As medallists from the IAAF World Championships travelled to the North East for the final event of the UKA outdoor athletic season, 64 young athletes from 4 local clubs had the opportunity to take centre stage in the Tony Blair Sports Foundation Sprint Off Trophy.
