The England Athletics Senior Championships come to Gateshead on 17-18 July. The North East has never been short of athletics heroes, both homegrown, and the big names who have produced marvellous performances on the Gateshead International Stadium. As we wait to see who will stake their claim to being added to that number we look at some of the start performers of yesteryear.

22.Jun.10 North East athletes in top form in Bedford
North East athletes were in top form at the Aviva England Athletics Under-23/Under-20 Championships and World Trials in Bedford over the weekend.

14.Jun.10 Schools Super8 event precursor to National Champs
A Super8 event will be taking place on the 17th July at Gateshead Stadium as a precursor to the National Senior Championships, running from 10am to noon. Super 8 is a team based competition where each athlete participating will complete in one track, one field and one relay.

07.Jun.10 NE athletes to benefit from international in Geneva
Three North East athletes are amongst the line up this weekend in the EAP Meeting in Geneva. David Riley, Jak Lowdon (both 400m) and Chris Kirk (Long Jump) will be up against the best athletes in Europe.

04.Jun.10 Wallington 10k
The Wallington 10k on 12th September will be one of the most scenic road races in the country. The event has been planned to start and finish at the historic House. The event is designed to attract new runners to take part.

27.May.10 Multi eventers run jump and throw success at Hexham
The first athletic meeting of the year brought a number of athletes from as far as Glasgow to Hexham, for the Combined Events Festival at the weekend. Youngsters from the age of 8 to 16 took part in the multi event competition at Wentworth.
