At the end of the London 2012 Olympic opening ceremony, the long awaited for answer of who would light the main Olympic flame was revealed. With Legacy the word on everyone's lips, the cauldron was lit by seven up-and-coming young sportspeople including four track and field stars.

As we come to the eve of the Olympic Games' opening ceremony, the nationwide torch relay culminates in the lighting of the Olympic flame. Many of our athletics volunteers and great athletes of the past had the opportunity of a lifetime and were one of the 8000 inspirational people to take part in the torch relay.

26.Jul.12 Dorset village celebrate local 1900 Olympics medallist
The Charles Bennett Olympic Mile was organised by Voice of Shapwick, the village community group, in association with Bournemouth Athletic Club and Wimborne Athletic Club. It celebrates the Olympic achievements of Shapwick-born Charles Bennett at the 1900 Summer Olympics.
