Team Southampton’s committee held a dinner recently at the Hilton Hotel in Chilworth to formally thank Mike Smith, Janet Smith and Carol Dawkins for their tremendous service to Athletics in Southampton. They are all still very involved in club activities including coaching and officiating.

28.May.09 Shot Put guru flies into Braintree
Following a very successful ‘Flying Coach’ visit in Ipswich at the end of March former Olympian in the shot and now top coach, Geoff Capes, returned to Braintree to develop the technical knowledge of aspiring throws coaches. The session focused on the specific technical aspects of the Shot Put and it was encouraging to see coaches from other throwing events in attendance.

In a joint funded trip between England and UKA, a number of athletes were given the opportunity for international competition by competing in the Halle Throws Fest in Germany.

26.May.09 Warm weather weekend sees records tumble
Records tumbled at SEAA Age Group championships this weekend; Louisa James added almost 2m onto the U17 hammer distance, the U15 Girls’ triple jump record was lengthened to 11m14, Jodie Wiliams clocked 11.56 for her 100m, and Jessica Judd ran a UK Age Group Best of 4:23.02 in her 1500m.
