Nineteen volunteers were recognised for their outstanding dedication and commitment to sport at this year's prestigous Torch Trophy Trust Awards. This included John Knight - a volunteer who dedicates many hours to athletics.

Athletics activists and enthusiasts made their way from across the region to attend the 2011 England Athletics East Midlands Awards Ceremony at the Quorn Grange Hotel near Loughborough.

17-year-old Aidan Smith, of Ilkeston, is one of the field judges who has been provisionally selected by UK Athletics to officiate at London 2012. Aiden is one of 60 field judges of various ages who have received the provisional call-up.

Recognising that PE teachers and the teaching profession in general are the front line of athletics coaching and to many children will be the only contact that they have with the sport, the Leicestershire Vision 2020 McCain Athletics Network recently set up an after school seminar for teachers.
