These courses aim to give teachers and coaches and others working with young athletes the knowledge, skills and confidence to deliver enjoyable and engaging sessions that focus on encouraging maximum participation and increasing understanding, skill acquisition, fitness and enjoyment.

Based upon the Elevating Athletics teaching resource, they demonstrate progression across age groups in generic and athletics specific running, jumping and throwing activities. The 6 hour courses can be delivered to a maximum of 24 participants on one day, two half days or three twilight sessions.

Certificate in Teaching Primary Athletics

This course highlights safe and inclusive teaching methodology, which initially focuses on developing competency in the fundamental movement skills that underpin athleticism before examining how to apply these skills to running jumping and throwing events.

Certificate in Teaching Secondary Athletics

This course builds upon what is presented in the Primary resource. It focuses upon the ongoing acquisition and further development of the fundamental movement skills that underpin athleticism. It highlights progressions for students of all abilities, presenting clear technical models and safe and inclusive teaching methodologies.

The additional programmes and resources available to support delivery, measurement and assessment are signposted, and the inclusion of all children and the first steps to competition are highlighted.

Bespoke courses to meet your specifications

To complement the primary and secondary certificate, England Athletics - London Region endorses a range of performance tutors with specific areas of speciality. These performance tutors may be of particular interest to secondary schools, FE/HE establishments and clubs interested in establishing a CPD programme for their teachers and coaches working at an advanced level. How to arrange a course

England Athletics – London Region have two options available to School Sports Partnerships. Our preferred method is to train an athletics enthusiast within the School Sports Partnership as a tutor. This tutor will be able to deliver freely throughout the partnership at no cost, on condition that the course has been registered with us, and that teacher registration forms and monitoring and evaluation questionnaires are returned to us following the course, after which we will issue the certificates. The second option is to arrange with us for a tutor to visit your partnership. This option will cost £450 per course. For further details please refer to the School Spots Partnership Starter Pack available to down load here.
