roadrunning legsTo support the important work of race organisers, to help them to improve the standard of road races across England and ensure that they are being held in compliance of licensing conditions, Event Adjudicators are needed for all licenced road and multi-terrain races - this has been a requirement since April 2012.

The important process of identifying potential Event Adjudicators and ensuring they are properly skilled to undertake event evaluation report against Licence Standards is currently underway. We would be very pleased to hear from you if this is a role that you feel you can undertake.

Each Region has a Regional Review Panel that will look at the reports and take up any points of recommendation or concern with the Race Promoter to enhance the event next time it is staged. Ensuring that races are held in compliance with licence standards means that there is a stronger level of quality assurance for the athletes taking part and that those races with a licence are able to show clearly the high standards of provision (including safety measures) that they are adhering to.

The introduction of Event Adjudicators has another important benefit for events, clubs and athletes in what is becoming an increasingly litigious climate. Reports will help to give race organisers (and athletes) greater assurance that their event is held in compliance with the terms of the licence.
This role will ensure that the role of the Race Referee remains purely to uphold the rules of competition in a fair manner (held under UKA Rules). The Event Adjudicator’s role is to monitor and report on Licence Standard delivery.  The appointment of a list of Event Adjudicators will be the responsibility of Regional Panels. The Race Promoters will be able to appoint an Event Adjudicator from the list published online.  It will be The Event Adjudicator’s role to undertake a review and make comments based on a “Checklist” of Licence Standards.

Event Adjudicators can be;

  • Current Endurance Official (Level 2b)
  • A current BARR Scrutineer (BARR to identify and provide list)
  • An existing County Licence Officer
  • A current Race Promoter (CV to be submitted to runbritain Technical Group) Regional Panels will appoint (see link below)

 
The Event Adjudicator will be DBS Checked, covered by UKA Public Liability Insurance and issued with accreditation. Accreditation  includes an access code to the Race Directors’ Portal and URN Number to be quoted by Race Promoters on application of Licence. This will also provide access to complete Race Reviews online. The Event Adjudicator will submit the report online within 7 days of the race

Race Reviews will be reviewed by Regional Panels who, where appropriate, will make recommendations to the Race Promoter and the governing body for agreement and implementation of recommendations prior to issue of future Licences.
