A unique opportunity for Greater Manchester Networks

A unique opportunity for Greater Manchester Networks

Saturday 12th November offered a very unique opportunity for Greater Manchester Networks (Manchester Athletics Network and M60 Athletics Network) Children’s Coaches.

Following a series of 365 workshops, the next step in enhancing young athlete’s experiences in Athletics was to offer coaches the opportunity to gain further knowledge in 3 key areas:

  • Hydration, tips and techniques offered by Lucozade Sport Scientist Emma Gardner.
  • Strength Training and Appropriate Physical Preparation for Young Athletes delivered by Manchester’s Coach of the Year Keith Hunter
  • Sports Psychology - considerations and implications for coaching children seminar tutored by Leonie Lightfoot, England Athletics CDM and Sport Psychologist.

17 local coaches, who combined, work with over 250 young athletes in the Greater Manchester area dedicated a whole Saturday to improving their skill bank. The day also provided opportunity for local coaches to talk with likeminded coaches from across both networks and establish further cross club relations.

The strength in local coach development under the area of coaching children is fast advancing within these networks and we hope to continue the support and enhance it even further. The willingness and passion the coaches will ensure successful experiences for all young children they meet.

Manchester and the M60 Athletics Networks would like to pass huge thanks to tutors and deliverers on the day, for providing an enjoyable learning experience for all involved.
