NEW RUNNING STORE OPENS IN CAMBRIDGE - September 8th 2007
International multi-medallist Sonia O’Sullivan formally opened the new Advance Performance store in Cambridge today. Originally from Ireland, and now with both Irish and Australian citizenship, Sydney 2000 Olympic 5,000m silver medalist and 1998 double World Cross-Country Champion, Sonia O'Sullivan officially declared the store open in Cambridge at 10 o’clock this morning.
Olympian Sonia cut a ribbon and revealed a brass plaque to mark the occasion of the first Advance Performance store to be opened outside Peterborough. Previously Sally Gunnell and Steve Cram have each travelled to Cambridgeshire to mark similar business successes for the company. After the formalities, Sonia went on to lead a group of customers, with several being Histon Hobblers, on a training run from the store around the Girton area. Sonia remarked, "I have really enjoyed meeting customers and the team from Advance Performance and wish them well with their new venture. It is great to see such a supportive environment encouraging everyone to run."
Currently interest in athletics is high, following British medal successes, particularly in women’s athletics, at the World Athletic Championships in Osaka, Japan over the last two weeks. The store opening event marked the third anniversary of Sonia O’Sullivan winning the Flora Light Women’s 5K Challenge, in Hyde Park.
The new extensive running store, at Gusto Mill on Huntingdon Road, is 1800 sq ft in size and complements the 2,360 sq ft Peterborough running store by being open from Wednesday through to Sunday. This means that there is now an Advance Performance store open in Cambridgeshire seven days a week.
Commenting Samantha Hale, Managing Director of Advance Performance, said, “We are thrilled that Olympic athlete Sonia O’Sullivan has opened our new second store. We look forward to welcoming people of all running abilities to our store in Cambridge!”
New Cambridge Running Store -
All Top Brands and Top Athlete when Store Opens in September
From September 2007, Peterborough based Advance Performance, will open a second Running Store for Everyone, in Cambridge. The new extensive store, at Gusto Mill on Huntingdon Road, is 1800 sq ft in size and will complement the 2,360 sq ft Peterborough store by being open from Wednesday through to Sunday. This means that there will be an Advance Performance store open, offering all the leading brands, in Cambridgeshire seven days a week.
The aim of both stores is to ensure that products are never less than 100% of what is needed. Careful assessment of each customer enables them to make the right decision when selecting running shoes so helping to avoid injuries and enhance their running style. Keeping good stock levels is also key to making sure customers have all the choice they require. Top running shoes from Nike, Asics, Mizuno, New Balance, Saucony and Brooks will be available, along with running kit and accessories from brands such as Falke, Shock Absorber, Sugoi, Helly Hansen, Gore, Concurve and Polar. There is plenty of free parking at both stores, where customers are also encouraged to try the running shoes outdoors before they buy.
A top international record breaking Nike sponsored athlete has agreed to formally open the store at the beginning of September. From the start of her career, Jo Pavey showed excellent talent, as a teenager setting a British Under 15 record at 1500m in 1988. More recently, Jo was a 5000m medal winner at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and this year she has broken the Commonwealth best for an indoor 2 miles and went on to win the 2007 Great Manchester Run at 10km. Elite athlete Jo Pavey will be hot-footing back from Japan, where she is competing in the World Athletics Championships in Osaka, to open the store in Cambridge.
Commenting Samantha Hale, Managing Director said, “We are really looking forward to next month when we will be able to give even more and better access to our customers, both old and new, from Cambridge. The same hands-on team will manage the store and are all motivated about this expansion of our successful business. It is an accolade to the quality of the service we provide, that someone of Jo Pavey’s ability has agreed to open the new store.”
