Certificates in Teaching Athletics

These Course aim to give teachers and others working in schools the knowledge, skills and confidence to deliver enjoyable and engaging lessons that focus on encouraging maximum participation and increasing understanding, skill acquisition, fitness and enjoyment. Based on the Elevating Athletics teaching resource, they demonstrate progression across age groups in generic and athletic specific running, jumping and throwing activities.

 

Course costs include all admin costs, tutor fees and travel expenses. They do not cover the provision of a venue, which is the responsibility of the hosts.

 

Courses should be registered with England Athletics East Midlands.

Max number: 24 participants

 

Duration: six hours practical and theory- courses can be tailored to individual host needs (for example, courses can be delivered in 2 half days or 2 twilight sessions).

Cost: Typically £450 for a full day course but cost should be negiotiated with England Athletics East Midlands - subsidies may be available via County Athletics Action Plans.

 

Registration forms for participants and course completion certificates need to be ordered through England Athletics East Midlands.

 

Certificate in Teaching Primary Athletics

For qualified and trainee teachers and those supporting the management and delivery of high quality sport and physical education in primary schools.

The Course highlights safe and inclusive teaching methodology, which initially focuses on developing competency in the fundamental movement skills that underpin athleticism, before examining how to apply these skills to running, jumping and throwing events.  The additional programmes and resources available to support delivery, measurement and assessment are signposted and the inclusion of all children and the first steps into competition are highlighted.

 

 

Certificate in Teaching Secondary Athletics

This course builds upon the Primary resource and continues the acquisition and development of the fundamental movement skills that underpin athleticism.  It shows how students progress to develop competency in the execution of athletics specific skills, which are based upon the technical event models, and highlights safe and inclusive teaching methodology.

 

The additional programmes and resources available to support delivery, measurement and assessment, citizenship and problem solving are signposted and inclusion of all pupils and ongoing steps into competition are highlighted.

 

Elevating Athletics Resource Packs

Please note that all course participants should have access to a copy of the relevant Elevating Athletics resource pack.  These must be purchased in advance and are available from www.ukashop.co.uk.

 

Primary Elevating Athletics £20 each

Secondary Elevating Athletics £20 each.
