England Athletics East Midlands are introducing a series of championship races on the roads over different distances, all designed to encourage our most talented and ambitious runners to compete against each other more frequently and drive up standards.
The inaugural Livingston road relays – incorporating the England Athletics East Midlands Championships attracted some of the Midlands’ top endurance performers on easter weekend, with the prize of gaining an opportunity to participate in an international competition as the key attraction.
The winning senior and veteran teams won places in the 7.5km road race run on the day of the Amsterdam Marathon (19 October) in addition to three nights’ accommodation in the capital of the Netherlands.
The winning junior teams and the two fastest male and female individuals from the junior race won places on the elite start line at the Great Manchester Run on Sunday 18 May and accommodation in the elite athletes’ hotel.
The prizes were in addition to the awards being provided by the organisers of the Livingston Road Relays for the men’s 4x3 miles and women’s 3x3 miles races.
