Information for Clubs

Clubs are the life blood of the sport and therefore supporting our clubs to develop is one of England Athletics - East Midlands key priorities.

This section hopes to give you vital information on a number of key issues that will assist your club to develop.

England Athletics Welfare Policies and Procedures

These can be found via the following link

Menu of Opportunities

It has been decided that it was time England Athletics East Midlands ‘spelt out’ what it can offer clubs, coaches, officials, athletes, teachers and parents in the East Midlands.

At the bottom of this page there is a ‘menu of opportunities’ that any one in the East Midlands can take advantage of.  England Athletics East Midlands is committed to the development of athletics in the region and will help in any way possible.  To find out what is on offer and what you can get involved with please take a look at the Menu of Opportunities attached to the bottom of this page!

A great idea to advertise your own local Athletics Club. Click here for further information.

AFFILIATION

From April 2007 Clubs in England will affiliate to England Athletics rather than the territories. Obviously this process will mean some changes to the processes that have been carried out in the past.

On the Affiliation tab opposite there is a guide to affiliation provided by Athletics Services that should hopefully make this process more straight forward.

CASC

According to leading sports business advisers Deloitte, an estimated £60 million per year is lost by sports clubs not registered as COMMUNITY AMATEUR SPORTS CLUBS and at present 4,267 clubs are benefiting from an estimated £18.5 million in savings.

Both property and non-property owning clubs can significantly benefit from the scheme. The key benefits of CASC registration include:

  • 80% mandatory business rate relief. Local authorities can offer up to 100% relief to clubs at their discretion.
  • The ability to raise funds from individuals under Gift Aid. A registered CASC can reclaim up to £28 in tax for every £100 donated, though at the moment this does not apply to all types of donations.
  • CASCs are exempt from Corporation Tax on profits derived from trading activities if their trading income is under £30,000 pa.
  • Profits derived from property income are also exempt for CASCs if gross property income is under £20,000 pa, of particular relevance following the abolition of the nil rate band.
  • CASCs whose income does not exceed these thresholds will no longer be required to complete an annual Corporation Tax return.

For more information on CASC and to find out if your club would benefit from the scheme visit www.cascinfo.co.uk. You will also find information on how to apply as well as being able to access the relevant forms.

If you are considering applying for CASC and would like to speak to another club in the East Midlands to find out how they have benefited or just to get some more practical advice please contact Chris Mallender.

CLUBMARK

Clubmark is a quality accreditation for athletic clubs. There are 2 separate accreditations – one for clubs with junior sections and one for senior clubs.

Clubmark accreditation is awarded to clubs that comply with minimum operating standards in four areas:

Clubs that want to start the accreditation process will receive support and advice from the regional team and can also access sample documents and templates from this site. Circumstances will vary between clubs but there is only one set of paperwork to complete and in general most clubs are well on the way to achieving accreditation without realising it.

There is a dedicated clubmark website that includes variuos resources and information updates to support clubs through the Clubmark accreditation process.

Benefits of Clubmark

ALL CLUBS GAINING ACCREDITATION IN THE EAST MIDLANDS WILL RECEIVE A 250.00 BURSARY FROM ENGLAND ATHLETICS - EAST MIDLANDS!

Other general benefits include:

  • Club development: The foundation for any club is its youth structure. By encouraging and attracting young members, it is building a strong future.
  • Increased membership: Addressing issues like equity and child protection gives parents confidence when choosing a club for their children.
  • Developing coaches and volunteers: As part of Clubmark, clubs receive help in developing the skills of those involved in their organisation. In the East Midlands all accredited clubs receive increased bursaries for coach education.
  • Raised profile: Once Clubmark accredited, clubs will be listed on a national database and in other directories, to help them attract new members and grow.

If you are interested in starting the accreditation process and would like to register or would simply like to find out more about what is involved contact the regional team for more information.
