Find out more about parkrun and junior parkrun

parkrun

parkrun events are free to take part in. There are also junior parkrun events.

They are held weekly on a Saturday, starting at 9am in England and Wales and 9:30am in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Just click on an event nearest to you for more information www.parkrun.org.uk/events

parkrun events are open to everyone from the age of four, even if you have never run before. They are held on a 5km single or multi-lap course.

The events are incredibly welcoming and friendly, and are a run not a race! There is no pressure to run continuously for the whole distance - you can always walk if you want to.

The events are timed, and whilst some people love to try and improve their personal best time, participation should ultimately be for fun and enjoyment the number one priority.

How to register and get involved

parkrun participants only need to register once on www.parkrun.org.uk, upon which they are able to print out their unique parkrun barcode.

After that they can take part in any parkrun event (junior or a 5km parkrun) in the UK and around the World.

At the finish line every runner is given a Finish Position Token that is then scanned with the participant’s personal barcode to generate the result (time and position). Results are sent to each participant by email or text.

In keeping with parkrun's ethos of encouraging regular participation, t-shirts are awarded on achieving certain participation levels. These are at 10 (juniors only), 50, 100 and 250 runs.

About junior parkrun

junior parkrun events are free to take part in.

They are held weekly on a Sunday (aside from events in Bushy Park and Savill Garden which are monthly). All the events are listed on our website at: www.parkrun.org.uk/events/juniorevents/. Start times do vary slightly so please check locally for more information.

junior parkruns are for 4-14 year olds, and are open to everyone within this age range, even if you have never run before. They are held on a 2km single or multi-lap course.

The events are incredibly welcoming and friendly, and are a run not a race! There is no pressure to run the whole distance - you can always walk if you want to.

The events are timed, and whilst some children love to try and improve their personal best time, participation should ultimately be for fun and enjoyment is the number one priority.

Parents or guardians are more than welcome to take part in junior parkruns, but only if they are accompanying a junior runner (adult runners are not permitted to run across the finish line though!).

In keeping with parkrun's ethos of encouraging regular participation, wristbands are awarded as an incentive to junior parkrun participants: a blue wristband for a cumulative ‘Half Marathon’ (11 junior parkruns), a green 'Marathon' band for 42 cumulative kilometers and an orange 'Ultra' band for those who have clocked up 100km.
